Midsummer Night's Dream
Essay
Theseus' and Hippolyta's wedding provide a frame for the royalty because they are the royalty.
Because weddings are a sort of theme for this story the young lovers, who just want to marry the
person they love, are seeking a marriage also. The mechanicals are making a play to present to the
royalty, Theseus' and Hippolita. The fairies are trying to put together the young lovers so they can
be married also.
The royalty is somewhat against the lovers and want them to marry others, this makes the lovers
the good guys or protagonists. The mechinicals form the play to convince the royalty that the
young lovers belong together, and to show them what the lovers are going through. The fairies try
to change the future of the lovers for the better throughout the play.
The fairies provide the machinery for the play by trying to change the feelings of the young lovers
and make everyone happy. This would make the royalty happy because the kids would marry the
ones the royalty likes. The fairies influenced the mechinicals by playing some tricks, such as
bottom's ass head. Of course the fairies influenced themselves.
The purpose served by the mechinicals may seen a irrelevant to some, but their purpose is very
important. It is important to the royalty because through their play they convince the royalty to let
the lovers marry. The lovers get to marry the who they want. And the fairies are helped in the task
of making the loves and marriages work out for everyone.
This play is both a comedy and a fantasy. It is a comedy in the fate of the protagonists turns out
good, they can marry their loves. It is also a fantasy because there is magical fairies and
transformations of things, such as Bottom's head and Demetrius' feeling as well as Lysander's
feelings. This play definitely fits into both classifications. |
